Principles of Dark Mode Design
It's not just about inverting colors. Designing for dark mode requires careful consideration of contrast, saturation, and depth.
Dark mode reduces eye strain and saves battery life on OLED screens. But pure black (#000000) is often a mistake.
Contrast Ratios
Ensure text meets WCAG AA standards. Grey text on black background often fails accessibility tests.
Depth
Use lighter shades of grey to indicate elevation, rather than shadows (which are invisible on black).
